Foreigner Jailed For Flashing

Bandar Seri Begawan - A Pakistani national was sentenced to four months' imprisonment by the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate's Court yesterday after he pleaded guilty to exposing his private parts to two Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) students.

Muhammad Umar Khattak, 30, who is neither a student nor an employee of UBD, went on two occasions to the university library on November 1 and 4 and exposed himself to two different female students, said the Prosecuting Officer. The court heard that the first complainant was at the UBD library doing her assignment and saw the defendant looking for a book. The defendant later sat next to the complainant and asked something about the Internet, but the complainant said she could not understand what he was asking for. A few minutes later, the complainant saw the defendant, still sitting next to her, unzip his pants. She saw him repeatedly zipping and

unzipping his pants and later saw him exposing his private parts. The defendant went again to the library three days later. The second complainant saw the defendant standing near the bookshelves and unzipping his pants to expose his private parts.

The two complainants positively identified the defendant when the police conducted an identity parade. The defendant, who has no previous conviction, was arrested on November 24. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin

10-Year-Old Boy Feared Drowned

Bandar Seri Begawan - A 10-year-old boy is feared drowned while swimming at Tungku Beach.

Four siblings who were swimming in only knee-deep water with their aunt yesterday afternoon were dragged in by a freak wave. The aunt was able to save three of the four siblings, who are now at the RIPAS hospital in stable condition at press time. The fourth sibling, approximately three and a half feet tall and wearing a black football t-shirt and black shorts, is reported missing. According to the Royal Brunei Police Force, they received a call around 5.15pm informing them that a boy is missing while swimming at the beach. The Marine Police of the RBPF, along with seven

of theif divers, were deployed at the scene and assisted by officers and personnel from the nearby police stations. Meanwhile, the Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at around 6.15pm. Ten Fire and Rescue personnel from the Jerudong Fire station headed by Superintendent Hj Sofian Hj Tahir, Commanding Officer of Operation `F', and 10 personnel from the diving unit of the Berakas Fire Station headed by Assistant Station Officer Md Haris Hj Zaini were deployed at the scene.

Divers from the Royal Brunei Police Force and Fire and Rescue Department went into the water around 6.45pm but operations were brought to a halt due to bad weather and strong waves.

The Fire and Rescue Department will be patrolling the shores in the area where the boy was last seen. Rescue operations will resume as soon as the weather returns to normal and divers will begin the search again assisted by boats and jet skis from the RBPF Marine Police.

Both the RBPF and the Fire and Rescue personnel said they will be at the scene until the missing boy is found.

The Fire and Rescue Department has also provided tents for protection from rain for anxious family members who are at the scene.

The Fire and Rescue Department and the Royal Brunei Police Force have advised the public not to bring children to the beach for swimming during rainy season and inclement weather and if they do go for a swim someone should watch over the children. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
